The Trustees of the Foundation believe that a child’s destiny is molded by his or her early childhood experiences and that a lack of appropriate enrichment in the early years is not easily remedied.
In an ideal world, every child, regardless of economic or social status, would be prepared to take full advantage of all available opportunities. The Trustees have observed first hand that not every child has the resources to make this a reality. Therefore, the Trustees have committed the Foundation to be a participant in helping children reach this goal.
The Foundation’s primary focus will be to support organizations and programs in the New York and Boston metropolitan areas which provide opportunities for children from birth through the elementary years.
Foundation support will be available for a broad range of programs including, but not limited to those which:
- encourage early childhood literacy;
- encourage a healthy lifestyle;
- encourage empathy and ethical behavior;
- encourage children to explore the world around them;
- introduce children to the worlds of music and art;
- provide support to parents, caregivers and teachers.
The Trustees are particularly interested in programs which are integrated into organized curricula.
Programs may take place in a public or private school setting, or in such other venues as community centers, botanical gardens, museums and libraries.
The Foundation will consider funding specific programs that serve older children provided such programs are new initiatives. Requests for general operating support for existing programs that serve older children will not be favored.
