About Us

A child's destiny is shaped by its early experiences. In an ideal world, every child, regardless of economic or social status, would enter school prepared, intellectually and emotionally, to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to it. Unfortunately, experience has shown that not every family has the financial or psychological resources to provide the enriching experiences or emotional support necessary to prepare their children to succeed when they enter school. A child who enters school inadequately prepared emotionally to deal with his peers or school or lacking basic age appropriate knowledge will have to struggle to overcome those deficiencies.

That is why the Foundation's resources are devoted primarily to programs designed to equip young children with the intellectual, emotional and other skills and attributes thev will need to be able to learn effectively.

Since the Trustees believe that reading is the foundation of learning and that children must be healthy and emotionally fit in order to learn effectively, the Foundation supports programs that encourage early childhood literacy and emotional well-being. Within these areas the Foundation looks for programs which provide support to parents, teachers and caregivers, which promote empathy and ethical behavior, and which motivate children to explore the world around them.

The Foundation will only accept unsolicited requests for funding for proqrams which are directed at improving the literacy and emotional well-being of children from birth through the early elementary years. Please Note: The Foundation is currently accepting unsolicited, new, applications for funding only from organizations providing services in the New York City metropolitan area.
